The Worst Christmas Song EVER
"An Old Fashioned Christmas (Daddy's Home)" Linda Bennett (1975)
It starts out like your typical sleepy MOR Christmas ballad. But then comes the "Breaking News" radio reports. And from here, this record really goes to hell.
I'm not sure what they were thinking either, but then again for some reason death songs were becoming popular again in '75 ("Run Joey Run", "Wildfire", "Judy Mae", "Emma" and Austin Roberts' "Rocky"), so I guess the folks responsible for this figured they'd strike while the iron was hot.
You're right. As well as on the mid 1970s garbage like almost every song (save "Judy Mae") you mentioned appeared on a 1975 Ronco album I own called Sound Explosion.
Wow....just...wow. The only word that comes to mind is...sucktacular.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I thought it was something National Lampoon put out. An Anita Bryant parody or something because. Seriously.
DeleteBut even though the usual people daddy rides the bus home with everyday are all DEAD now, they sure seem awfully cheerful.
The whole Stepford family vibe on this record just unnerves me.....
