The Day My Kid Went Punk
You had to love ABC TV in the '80s. What could be scarier than a kid with moussed hair? And those Sigue Sigue Sputnik records! What are the Nelsons ever going to do?
Wasn't he also playing in a classical orchestra? And wanted to play in the big classical show thing (or whatever) in a tux with the sleeves cut off? Just like every punk that *I've* ever met...
Nevertheless the ABC Afterschool Specials were written by probably some of the most brain dead screen writers in television history. But I suppose they were too afraid of giving the "kids" any uppity new ideas. When this came out, they were already exposed to Cro-Mags, Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, Misfits, DRI and SOD.
This kid was into.......Sigue Sigue Sputnik? Woooo....
(As you probably remember, those guys were already ancient HISTORY when this TV special came out. They weren't even PUNK.)
Speaking of Sigue Sigue Sputnik, I oughta write about THEM. It's not every band that puts ads for L'Oreal cosmetics on their own records.....
