History's Dumpster = GLORIOUS trash! Kitsch, music, fashion, food, history, ephemera, and other memorable and forgotten, famous and infamous pop culture junk and oddities of yesterday and today. Saved from the landfill of time...
Canfields Diet Chocolate Fudge first appeared in Chicago for a short time around 1972 or 1973. Sometime in the early 1980s, Chicago columnist Bob Greene whipped the nation into a frenzy with his column glorifying this "diet chocolate soft drink". Sorry Bob, this shit was NASTY!!!
My family first found Chocolate Soldier while traveling back east around 1982. Brought back two cases in out motorhome. Back on the west coast, I found some brand of chocolate soda, which was not the same. Wish I could find diet Yoo-Hoo now.
If I'm not mistaken, Canfield's at one point marketed a diet PEANUT fudge soda. BLECH!
