Weight Watcher's Recipe Cards From The '70s

Add caption

It wasn't easy being a someone on a diet in the '70s.

It was more like an episode of Fear Factor. These recipes are unspeakably horrible things they wouldn't serve at a supermax prison. They are BEYOND gross.

Who concocted these, may they spend all eternity eating this garbage.

And I don't know who "Marcy" was, but I feel so sorry for her poor husband........

More here.

Sea Galley Restaurants

Sea Galley restaurants are a chain of locally based restaurants on the West Coast. They are still operating today with locations in Anchorage, AK and Union Gap, WA.

This was their famous TV commercial, which ran all during the '80s. I remember elementary school kids used to dance and sing the lyrics, complete with high-kicks.

At my high school, we used to sing it to the chorus of "I Got You Babe" Sonny & Cher whenever that song came on the radio....

"Legs....(duh-duh, duh-duh)....We've got crab legs.....(duh-duh, duh-duh)....We've got crab legs....."

(Correction 1/22/14: I initially wrote Sea Galley went out of business. Ryan D. from Anchorage informed me that was far from the case. And John Graham informed me earlier there is also another location in Union Gap, WA. Thanks to everyone and Sea Galley for their patience and my apologies for the error. - Larry)

The Green Machine

The Green Machine was cool......if you knew how to run the thing.

It used something called "stick-shift steering", which was far more difficult to get the hang of if you were used to your conventional handlebars. The point was, it looked COOL....

I once totaled my friend's Green Machine back in elementary school, thus beginning a hatred of manual transmissions I never really got over.

The Inchworm

This was one of the CREEPIEST toy jingles of my childhood.

The Inchworm was a toy for little kids. It was plastic and industrial spring contraption made for ADHD kids with uncontrollable urges to bounce around everywhere.

You could only ride it on flat, level sidewalks. Hills would either send you backwards going up or accelerate at demonic speeds going down.

It wasn't made for overweight kids either.

Pepsi Light

Pepsi Light was a saccharin flavoured sweetened diet soda which came out in the late '70s. It was flavoured with lemon, which was a good thing, but did nothing to overcome the saccharin aftertaste. Pepsi somehow never though of making a regular version of this soda, which I think would have been a much bigger hit.

Later in the '80s, the lemon flavouring was removed for some reason and the product tanked. It was just a poor imitation of their own Diet Pepsi.
